Wisdom teeth often cause a lot of pain and oral problems; therefore, they have to be extracted. Bleeding after a wisdom teeth removal is regular, but it should stop in a day or two. Over time, clot forms in the area that blocks blood flow. Eventually, with time the area heals. In case the bleeding is abnormally high, or the empty socket does not recover in a few days, consult with your dentist as soon as possible.

How to stop bleeding after a wisdom teeth removal

There are a few remedies that can speed up recovery, after a wisdom tooth extraction, and stop bleeding. Immediately after a tooth removal, apply a small square piece of gauze in the empty socket. Bite and apply some pressure on it for some time. This will help slow down or stop the bleeding. In addition, a black tea bag can help  in forming blood clots quickly. Hence, placing a wet tea bag over the area of removal will stop the flow of blood.

With the remedies, you need to take a lot of rest. Do not do vigorous activity or exercise for a few days. Keep your head high while sleeping. Use an extra pillow when you sleep. Apply an ice pack regularly on the area for a few days. It will reduce swelling and discomfort. Alongside this, a proper diet is essential. Also, avoid using a straw as it may break the blood clot. Stay away from hot beverages and crunchy and chewy food for a few days. Once the gums heal, you can return to your normal routine.
