Wisdom teeth are the last set of teeth that erupt at the back of the gums and are also referred to as third molars. In total, there are 4 wisdom teeth.

Wisdom teeth eruption can be a normal process for some, and for others, it can cause a lot of pain and discomfort.

The wisdom teeth pain may go by itself, but for some individuals, it may require home remedies or treatment by their dentist. While for others, a wisdom tooth extraction may be the only best option.

This blog will explore some effective ways to get rid of wisdom teeth pain and explain the causes.

    What Causes The Pain

Wisdom teeth erupt between the ages of seventeen to twenty-one. Sometimes the growth of wisdom teeth through the gum can cause a lot of pain.

Moreover, there is very little space for the wisdom teeth to erupt as all of the adult teeth have already grown. The space shortage can result in misaligned teeth eruption and lead to impacted wisdom teeth. In some cases, the wisdom teeth may not emerge at all.

Wisdom teeth impaction is bad for the gums as it breaks the surface, and the teeth may not come fully. This can lodge the food particles in gums resulting in the various problem, such as:

    • periodontal disease
    • abscesses
    • cysts
    • infections

Home Remedies For Relieving Wisdom Teeth Pain

In the meantime, there are several over-the-counter medical treatments and natural home remedies available.

Impacted wisdom teeth can be painful and often cause severe swelling. In such scenarios, extraction of wisdom teeth can help get rid of the issues.

While your wait for an appointment with your Pasadena surgeon, the below natural home remedies and other treatments can help you find relief.

    Numbing gel
An oral numbing gel can relieve much of the pain and discomfort. You can buy these gels from a drugstore or buy them online.

You can apply most of the gels directly to the painful gums and keep doing that throughout the day. But be careful to read and follow the guidelines that come with the gel.

    Ice pack
Applying a cold compress can help alleviate the swelling and pain. Apply an ice pack to the outside of the affected teeth and hold it for 15 minutes. Now take a break for 15 minutes and repeat the process until the pain fades away.

    Ibuprofen
You can take Ibuprofen which is an OTC pain reliever to minimize swelling. Take the dose recommended on the pack to get rid of discomfort. Ibuprofen can also be helpful in minimizing the gum inflammation linked to the eruption of wisdom teeth.

    Salt water rinse
Salt water rinse can help eradicate germs and bacteria. For some people, the accumulation of bacteria in the impacted gums near wisdom teeth can lead to pain and discomfort.
Cleaning the mouth with salt water rinse can help minimize the ache. You can rinse your mouth 2-3 times a day or until the pain fades.
